Basin Area Chamber Happenings: by Barbara Anne

You may have noticed a slight name change for the Chamber.  We voted to add the word AREA.  Because Hyattville, Manderson, Otto and Burlington don't have chambers we want to assist in promoting the towns and the businesses in these towns. There are also many home-based businesses located out of the town limits. We want to represent them as well.

Another change is we now have a Mission Statement.  The Chamber has adopted the following mission statement:  "The Basin Area Chamber of Commerce organizes and promotes activities and events that support local business and foster a sense of community."

You will see us sponsoring and hosting events that are designed to grow our members business. We are also working with Big Horn County Economic Development to improve the gateways to the town. New welcome signs had been designed.  However, Wyoming Travel and Tourism suggested we work with a landscape artist to design a more permanent and attractive welcome area.  Once completed there will be welcome signs at each entrance of town.  The South and North entrance will have benches, planters, etc. Big Horn County Economic Development is searching for grants from private foundations for planters, benches and trash cans for downtown.

Lilacs:  In hopes of bringing the town back to its former Lilac City glory we want to plant more lilacs up and down the two main streets.  If you would like some lilac starts to plant please let us know.  If you have lilac starts you would like to donate please let us know this too. It would be wonderful to plant starts that come from some of the original lilac bushes.

Volunteers: Like every organization we need volunteers. People to help with events AND to give us new ideas and suggestions. We want to be a dynamic and proactive chamber. To do so, we need you.

Monthly Meetings: The first Thursday of each month is the regular meeting. It starts at noon and lunch is provided. You don't have to be a member to come. To save time, we try to mail out the minutes and the financial report a few days before the meeting so you have time to review it. Please join us!

Recycling: To become a more GREEN not GREENE chamber we are working with the town of Basin and Jim Morris to create attractive collection points for aluminum cans. We hope to have a minimum of 3 dumpsters located throughout the town. Currently there is a dumpster behind the chamber. The chamber does receive a portion of the money. Make our town a green place and bring on the cans
